We, British chocolatier and premium chocolate retailer – Hotel Chocolat – bring you Project Chocolat. An immersive initiative, set across 6-acres of the Rabot Estate in Saint Lucia. Here, at the home of our working cacao farm, we connect chocolate lovers to sustainable cacao-growing in unique, hands-on experiences.

On our comprehensive Tree to Bar experience, you’ll tour our farm and learn how we get from a cacao seedling to the end-product we all know and love, while treating the farmers and the planet kindly.  On our shorter experience, the Bean to Bar, you will skip straight to making your own chocolate bar while gaining delicious insider knowledge.

Tree To Bar Tour

Tour our cacao farm and make chocolate

On our comprehensive Tree to Bar tour, you’ll head into the rainforest and become one of few people in the world to see where cacao originates as you tour our organic cacao farm. Our expert guides will explain how we get from a cacao seedling to the end-product we all know and love, while treating the farmers and the planet kindly. After grafting a tree and seeing cacao growing in its natural, lush habitat, you’ll handcraft your own chocolate bar.

Bean To Bar Experience

Make your own chocolate bar

On our Bean to Bar, created especially for chocolate lovers, you will make your own chocolate and gain delicious insider knowledge. You’ll taste cacao pulp from a freshly cut pod, sample some Rabot Estate chocolate, and learn from the experts how to transform roasted cacao beans into a chocolate bar. (This is included within the Tree to Bar tour or can be booked as a standalone experience).

Hotel Chocolat’s story

Hotel Chocolat was founded by Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris over 20 years ago with the intention to reinvent chocolate and make it exciting again. Today, we sell our premium chocolate in stores, cafés, outlets and online across the UK, USA, and Japan. Here in Saint Lucia, we grow sustainable cacao, have the boutique Rabot Hotel, Restaurant & spa, and host immersive chocolate tours at Project Chocolat.

What is Project Chocolat?

Project Chocolat is Hotel Chocolat’s immersive cacao experience on Rabot Estate. Set across six acres of one of Saint Lucia’s oldest working cacao farms, it gives visitors the chance to explore where chocolate begins, learn how cacao is grown and make their own chocolate bar.

What is the difference between the Tree to Bar and Bean to Bar experiences?

The Tree to Bar experience takes you into the cacao groves to explore the full journey from seedling to finished chocolate, including grafting a cacao tree and making your own bar. Bean to Bar is the shorter option, focused on tasting fresh cacao pulp, learning about cacao and crafting your own chocolate bar.

How long do the Project Chocolat experiences take?

The Tree to Bar experience takes approximately two and a half hours. The Bean to Bar experience takes around one hour.

Is lunch included?

A market-style lunch is included with the Tree to Bar experience. Lunch is not included with the standalone Bean to Bar experience, but food can be purchased on site.

Do I need to book Project Chocolat in advance?

Advance booking is recommended for both experiences, especially during busy periods. You can still visit the shop or stop by for food and drinks without booking a tour.

Can I visit Project Chocolat without staying at Rabot Hotel?

Yes. Project Chocolat welcomes day visitors as well as Rabot Hotel guests. You do not need to be staying at the hotel to book a tour, visit the shop or enjoy food and drinks.

Is Project Chocolat suitable for families?

Yes. Project Chocolat is open to families, even though accommodation at Rabot Hotel is adults-only. It is a hands-on experience designed for anyone curious about cacao and chocolate.

What should I wear for the Tree to Bar experience?

Wear light, comfortable clothing and suitable footwear for walking through the cacao groves. As the experience takes place in a tropical rainforest setting, sun protection and insect repellent are also useful.

Can I make and take home my own chocolate bar?

Yes. Both the Tree to Bar and Bean to Bar experiences include the chance to make your own chocolate bar, which you can take away afterwards.

What else can I do at Project Chocolat?

You can enjoy cacao-inspired food and drinks, browse the Hotel Chocolat shop and attend selected live music or private events. Walk-ins are welcome for food, drinks and shopping.
